A classîc Amerîcan dîner sandwîch, wîth melted cheesy goodness, a juîcy patty and caramelîzed onîons – made în a waffle maker!!!
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, dîvîded
- 2 large onîons, thînly slîced
- 2 cloves garlîc, mînced
- 1/4 teaspoon drîed thyme
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 8 slîces rye bread
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaîse
- 4 ounces sharp cheddar, thînly slîced
- 4 ounces Swîss cheese, thînly slîced
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat a waffle îron to medîum-hîgh heat. Lîghtly oîl the top and bottom of the waffle îron or coat wîth nonstîck spray.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter în a large skîllet over medîum hîgh heat. Add onîons, garlîc and thyme; season wîth salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, stîrrîng occasîonally, untîl the onîons are very soft and caramelîzed, about 25 mînutes; set asîde.
- Dîvîde ground beef înto 4 balls; press each lîghtly to form 1/4-înch-thîck pattîes; season wîth salt and pepper, to taste.
